If you’ve ever walked around Decatur Square, you know that it’s an adorable little neighborhood full of community, great restaurants, and delicious drinks. There are lots of spots to pop in and grab a craft cocktail or a chill beer, there’s yummy food around every corner, and there are artisan shops galore! Whether you’re looking for incredible jewelry or a delicious scoop of ice cream, or a plant shop where you can make your own terrarium, downtown Decatur has it.
But what we’ve been missing is a wine bar. Luckily, one is on the way!
According to reports, Terry Koval, the James Beard award-winning chef of Decatur favorites The Deer and the Dove and B-Side is opening up a new wine bar! He says he’s been thinking of opening up a wine bar for a little while now, and when a little spot opened up just around the corner from his other restaurants, he couldn’t say no. Jenn, Koval’s wife and business partner, also agreed that a chill wine bar is just what Decatur needs, and with all green lights, Decatur Square’s first wine bar, Fawn, was born.
What is Fawn?
Fawn is still in the concept phase, of course, but there are already lots of ideas for it spinning around in Koval’s mind! He says that Fawn will be a cozy wine bar that gives the same essence as the ones in Italy or Spain. Expect dim lights, a moody atmosphere, and very relaxing vibes.
Fawn will have only 40 seats, an open European-style kitchen and a long bar. Koval has mentioned the possibility of a tasting menu, along with six or so house dishes like charcuterie with local cheeses, fresh-baked bread and caviar.
Koval wants Fawn to attract people in for a pre or post dinner drink and light snack. He wants the place to be a beautiful, relaxing place where people in Decatur can chat with friends while enjoying delicious wine.
Fawn will highlight coastal winemakers, craft amaros, and seasonal small plates. And even better news? It’s just a few steps away from The Deer and The Dove.
