Traveling on I-285 this weekend? Well, you might want to rethink those weekend plans. The Georgia Department of Transportation is closing a section of I-285 for construction all weekend. Keep scrolling for the details.
Wait… what’s going on?
If you remember, earlier this summer, GDOT closed another section of Atlanta’s highway system for construction. This will be a similar situation.
The Georgia Department of Transportation states,
No traffic will be allowed in the area during this full closure. All traffic approaching the area will be detoured. Roadside signs will alert drivers approaching the area of the closure in advance. Motorists who use this segment of I-285 should plan additional travel time or use an alternate route.
This project aims, according to Fox 5 Atlanta, to replace “shoulders, guardrails, glare screens and the concrete median barrier along the corridor.”
Where will the closure be exactly?
The stretch of I-285 between S. Atlanta Road (Exit 16) and Paces Ferry Road (Exit 18) will be FULLY closed to traffic. All traffic will be detoured along I-20 and the I-75/I-85 Connector. If possible, avoid the area, since traffic congestion will be bad.
GDOT strongly urges motorists to use 511 GA as the primary source for real-time traffic conditions and lane closure details.
When will I-285 be closed?
This event has been POSTPONED.
This section of I-285 will be closed from 7pm on Friday, July 24th to 5am on Monday, July 27th.
