There’s big news in the world of film & TV in Atlanta. Deadline reported earlier this week that ‘American Idol’, the household singing competition show, is leaving L.A. and moving film production to Atlanta for its 25th season, which premieres in 2027. Keep scrolling to learn more.
Where exactly in Atlanta will ‘American Idol’ film?
Right now, we know for sure that American Idol is moving to ATL, but we don’t know where. Fremantle, which produces American Idol with Sony Pictures Television-backed 19 Entertainment, has confirmed to Deadline that production will be in the Atlanta area.
Deadline states,
We hear that Fremantle is in final talks with a studio complex in the area but that it has not signed the deal.
This is quite the blow for reality TV production in California, and part of a larger trend of shows leaving the state. According to Deadline,
FilmLA recently released data for production in the second quarter of the year and while television rose overall from last year, unscripted productions in LA had 40% fewer shoot days than in the second quarter of 2025. Over the last five years, it has seen a 62.7% drop, per the organization.
Who are the judges on American Idol?
The household name-celebrity judges for American Idol are: Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Right now, none of the judges have been officially confirmed by ABC for season 25.
Ryan Seacrest, the show’s longtime host, is actually from Atlanta originally. He has also not been officially confirmed for season 25.
As soon as we have confirmation for judges and hosts of season 25, we’ll update you too!
Welcome to the ATL, American Idol!
