According to the Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB), the organization has,
activated a $5 million Crisis Response Plan to help feed hundreds of thousands of Georgians at risk of losing $130 million in SNAP benefits amid the ongoing government shutdown. With food demand already 70% higher than before the pandemic, ACFB is mobilizing quickly to meet the surge in need.
How is Atlanta Community Food Bank helping?
The plan is to help get food quickly and effiecnetly to Georgians who need it most. Here’s the ACFB’s plan of action:
- Purchase and distribute 6 million pounds of emergency food over the next four weeks.
- Increase food distribution by 85% over the enxt four weeks.
- Partner with 700 local agencies and their four Community Food Centers to expand food access across metro Atlanta and north Georgia.
