How does Atlanta rank on the list?

The new report by Trust for Public Land ranks all the top 100 most populous U.S. cities by their parks across five categories:
- equity
- access
- investment
- amenities
- acreage
Here’s what that means for Atlanta…

- Atlanta was most weighed down by its acreage. Scoring just 29/100 for acreage, Atlanta’s parks might not be huge or widespread, but they pack a punch!
- Atlanta scored a 79/100 for access. In fact, 85% of residents are within a 10 minute walk from a public park. That’s above the national average of 76% of residents being a 10-minute walk from a park.
- Atlanta scored a 100/100 for investment, meaning our community, volunteers and parks department all put in tons of care and effort to keep our parks clean, nice and accessible!
- For amenities, Atlanta scored a 68/100. This looked at the offerings of local parks: from dog parks to basketball hoops to workout equipment and beyond.
- And lastly, for park space equity, which looks at the distribution of parks / park space between neighborhoods by race and income, Atlanta scores a 64/100.
