Atlanta Pride has been put on hold once again!
The Atlanta Pride Committee announced earlier this year that their in person event will return this year. Unfortunately, the committee have just announced that their parade and festival are no longer happening.
In an Instagram post, the Atlanta Pride Committee said, “The Atlanta Pride Committee is dedicated to preserving out past and caring for our future. With that in mind, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the need to cancel our in-person festival events and parade for 2021.”
They continue: “The decision was made with great consideration and the input of our community’s leading public health officials.”
Although this news is terribly upsetting, as Atlanta Pride is considered one of the best Pride Festivals in the South, our safety must come first. There are a lot of ways to continue showing your Pride, and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, like supporting local businesses, or seeking local charities.
The scheduled date is the weekend commencing October 8th. Jamie Fergerson, executive director of the committee said in an official statement, “The last year has certainly been challenging. However, we are confident that when allowed by the city, we will be ready to go back into Piedmont Park and create a safe and healthy environment for the 2021 festival.”
We’ll keep you posted on all things Atlanta Pride 2021 as soon as further news is announced.
