This Stunning New Mural Honors Atlanta Pride In Old Fourth Ward

Earth Mama’s mural masterpiece keeps Atlanta loud, proud & vibrant!

Although the cancellation of this month’s Pride festivities knocked our spirits a little, there’s still so much to do in Atlanta to celebrate, and show your solidarity with the ATL’s LGBTQIA+ community.

One of the ways to do this is checking out this fantastic new mural that was recently unveiled in Atlanta. Atlanta Pride teamed up with The Canadian Consolate for both parties’ 50 year anniversary of establishment. The teams searched far and wide for a muralist and location.

Artist Avery Harden, also known as Earth Mama was chosen to transform Dad’s Garage Theatre, in Old Fourth Ward. The theatre has become an institutional part of Atlanta’s theatre scene, and has always shown solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.

Earth Mama’s design boasts several iconic scenes from the ATL, including the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and State Farm Arena’s Atlanta sign.¬†She told Secret Atlanta, “I created the design for the mural based on my personal story coupled with the history of Pride in Atlanta.”

She added, “To me Pride means living freely. Pride means being able to have a connection with who you are on the inside and living truthfully while supporting those around you.”

When asked what her favorite thing about Atlanta Pride was, she responded, “Watching so many people from different walks of life come together to support, celebrate and uplift each other. Atlanta Pride has come along way over the years and we are continuing to move forward together.”
