How long has the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade been going on?

We aren’t joking when we say it’s the city’s longest-running event. The Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade began in 1858, and still continues to this day. But it’s not just Atlanta history, this parade is also one ofthe largest St. Patrick’s parades in the country.
Since 2018, local nonprofit Irish Network Atlanta, has run the parade, putting a strong emphasis on Irish heritage and lineage, as well as inclusivity to all who are interested in learning about Irish culture and practices!
What can parade attendees expect at the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade?

Every year, thousands of revelers gather along the mile-long route in Midtown, ATL to watch the parade! The parade’s highlights include floats, marching bands, bagpipe and drum corps, animal groups, Irish dancers and community organizations, and so much more! With over 100 parade units, there’s plenty to see and enjoy!
This year, returning favorites include:
- the Seed & Feed Marching Abominable

- The Big Idaho Potato Truck.
The parade will also host Ireland dignitary Patrick O’ Donovan, Irish Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport.

Annie Greenwood, Irish Network Atlanta board member and immediate past president said in a statement,
It’s an honor to produce an event that means so much to so many people. I’m a third-generation Irish American and moved to Atlanta from Boston after college. I never imagined finding an Irish community that felt as strong as what I experienced back home. The parade represents all that makes Atlanta and Atlanta’s Irish community so special. The Irish community’s contributions to Atlanta are on full display, from the economic impact to the cultural influence. Each year, I’m moved by how Atlantans from all backgrounds show up to embrace this celebration.
