Why is it called the Snow Moon?

February’s full moon is called the snow moon due to the large amounts of snowfall in the northern hemisphere during the month. However, there are many other names for the February full moon as well. TimeandDate.com says,
Some North American tribes named it the Hungry Moon due to the scarce food sources and hard hunting conditions during mid-winter, while others named it Bear Moon, referring to bear cubs being born this time of year. Celtic and Old English names for the February Full Moon are Storm Moon and Ice Moon.
We typically call the full moon English translations of Native American names for it, but there are also cases of using Celtic, Anglo-Saxon, medieval English, and Neo-Pagan names for the moon in the U.S. as well.
