If you’ve driven through Downtown Atlanta, then you might notice restaurants, shops, services and, of course, high-rises and political buildings. But what you don’t ever see is a common human necessity. We’ve long lacked a grocery store in Downtown Atlanta. After the iconic Walgreens in Downtown Atlanta closed in 2024, there was no where to buy groceries in the neighborhood, making Downtown Atlanta a food desert. Well, Atlanta, we’ve got great news: Azalea Fresh Market just opened in the place of the old Walgreens.
What is Azalea Fresh Market?

If you don’t know, Azalea Fresh Market is a grocery story full of fresh produce, locally-grown products, and necessities.
Mayor Dickens said in a press tour last Thursday,
We have been in a food desert for far too long. We have to make sure we bring fresh food to where people are, where they live, where they go to work, and where students are — and this is the solution right here.
The city of Atlanta posted on Instagram yesterday (September 8th, 2025),
Great news Atlanta, Azalea Fresh Market is officially open! Designed by Savi and Cohere with the contribution of 60 SCAD students, this market brings fresh produce, locally sourced meats and seafood, baked goods, and more to the heart of downtown. Visit the historic Olympia Building at Five Points and shop local today.
The second floor of Azalea Fresh Market will also have two restaurants, which people can check out before or after they snag your fresh groceries!
Where is the new Azalea Fresh Market?

In the place of the old Walgreens, Azalea Fresh Market is located at 25 Peachtree St. in Downtown Atlanta.
The store’s hours are from 7am to 10pm, daily.
