Atlanta’s tallest (and possibly most iconic) skyscraper, the Bank of America Plaza, colloquially known as the Pencil Building for its shape, might be getting an exciting new addition, and we’re here for it!
According to a report by 11 Alive, founding partner at CP Group, Chris Eachus, says that his firm is actively working on a potential observation deck at Bank of America Plaza. Keep scrolling for all the details!
Wait… what’s going on?
The Bank of America Plaza, or Atlanta’s famous Pencil Building, could be getting an observation deck, from which the public could go up and see the whole Atlanta skyline, as well as miles and miles of surrounding nature and city.
If it happens, it would be one of the only observation decks like that in the entire region–something the southeast in particular lacks, compared to other metropolitan areas like NYC, which has several skyscraper observation decks.
Of course, building something like this wouldn’t be easy… but those in favor of the observation deck, including Eachus, think it would be worth it.
On the Sun Belt Developers podcast, Eachus stated,
We’ve been working on it for a few years now, and it’s getting to a point where it’s getting really interesting… I want it to happen. I think it’s a good thing for our city.
He also ensures those who regularly use the building that the observation deck and tourist attraction would be a separate visitor experience. In other words, the public wouldn’t be using the same elevator as tenants or daily building operations.
So, is this happening?
Short answer: we don’t know yet.
Since this project is still in the early design and development stage, there is no official timeline. Right now, the idea is just gaining traction and public attention.
