Mac and cheese is the reason why we had to reevaluate the term ‘side dish’, and transform them into a perfectly justifiable meals, as long as you up the ante with your servings. Undisputedly everybody’s favorite, you’ve got to try some of these ATL interpretations of the rich and creamy classic.
1. Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, Mac & Cheese
Undisputedly every visitor’s favorite side dish at Fat Matt’s Rib Shack, the mac and cheese is to die for! This blues and BBQ joint serves up some staples from the barbeque, but you can’t stop off at Fat Matt’s without trying their creamy mac and cheese.
2. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q, Chili-Mac
Another BBQ spot to make the mac and cheese hot spot list, but did you expect any different from the South? Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q have combined their mac and cheese with their chili, and the result is godsent.
3. Poor Calvin’s, Lobster Mac & Cheese
Feeling a little bougie? Let’s add some lobster to the mac and cheese equation. And it doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out that this mac is mad good.
4. Wisteria Restaurant, Mac & Cheese
Served up with braised greens, is it an over exaggeration to consider this one of our five a day? Probably so, but head to Wisteria for an elevated Southern cuisine experience.
5. Mary Mac’s Tea Room, Mac & Cheese
This restaurant is an institutional part of Atlanta’s culinary scene. So if you’re a lover of this cheesy side dish, don’t miss out on Mary Mac’s mac and cheese!
6. Busy Bee Cafe, Baked Mac & Cheese
Where: Downtown
When you’re serving up delicious fried chicken, there’s usually a delicious mac and cheese to match. Luckily, Busy Bee Café has just that, and more. The beloved Southern eatery has solidified itself as an ATL right of passage.
7. Community Q BBQ, Mac & Cheese
Now that we’ve got a couple of unique takes on the cheesy favorite, it’s time to go back to basics at Community Q BBQ. Their beloved mac and cheese is everything you’d expect from the delicious pasta dish, and more according to their dedicated following.
8. 9 Mile Station, Mac & Cheese
Where: Ponce City Market
Head to the roof at Ponce City Market for 9 Mile Station! Getting their mac and cheese with a side of fries is a go-to for many who visit. Carbs on carbs with a killer view of the ATL? Sounds like a reoccurring fever dream.
9. Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles, Skillet Mac & Cheese
It doesn’t get much better than chicken & waffles, except for when mac and cheese is involved. Johnny’s Chicken & Waffles’ mac & cheese is one of the cheesiest in the ATL! Add fried shrimp or chicken tenders for the ultimate pasta dish!
10. Hobnob, Mac & Cheese
As one of our favorite sports bars in Atlanta, there’s an extensive menu of comfort food on offer. Their mac and cheese is a three cheese blend, with a crunchy, breaded topping. We could make a meal of the awesome sides at Hobnob.
