Daylight Saving Time is just around the corner, and we’re gearing up for darker evenings and an extra hour of sleep! Keep scrolling for all the details about this year’s Daylight Saving Time, and a little history on DST.
When do I set my clock back for Daylight Saving Time ending?
Daylight Saving Time officially ends on Sunday, November 2nd, 2025. Set your clock back at 2am (it’ll probably reset itself, honestly)!
Are we gaining or losing an hour of sleep?

Gaining! And good thing too, because there’s plenty of parties and events happening this Halloweekend! Since you’re setting your clock back to 1am at 2am, you’re gaining a full hour of sleep (or party!).
Losing an hour of sleep happens in March, when we “spring” forward.
Why do we do Daylight Saving Time?

It’s a common myth that Daylight Savings is for the farmers. Actually… it’s a little more complex than that.
Here’s what the U.S. Astronomical Applications Department says about it:
The Standard Time Act [of 1918] established Daylight Saving Time, which was a contentious idea at the time. Daylight saving time was repealed in 1919, but standard time in time zones remained in law. Daylight time became a local matter. It was re-established nationally early in World War II, and was continuously observed from 9 February 1942 to 30 September 1945… The Uniform Time Act of 1966 provided standardization in the dates of beginning and end of Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. but allowed for local exemptions from its observance. The Uniform Time Act provided that Daylight Saving Time begin on the last Sunday in April and end on the last Sunday in October, with the changeover to occur at 2 a.m. local time… The Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed both the starting and ending dates. Beginning in 2007, Daylight Saving Time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.
That’s an extremely dense way to say… Daylight Saving Time is actually a pretty new concept, and it’s changed over and over throughout U.S. history. The most recent adaption of Daylight Saving Time was only set in 2007, fewer than 20 years ago.
So get ready for darker evenings, Atlanta. Turn on those sunset lamps and grab a blanket!
