What to expect at the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy at Oakland Cemetery
Often inspired by love, loss, and regret, Poe’s legendary stories explore the darkest corners of the human psyche — and this time, they’re being told inside one of the very settings that inspired them.
From September 18-19, four iconic tales will come to life through captivating theater performances inside Oakland Cemetery. The public park dates back to 1850 and serves as the final resting place for over 70,000 people, including Margaret Mitchell, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Gone with the Wind, and Kenny Rogers, a Country Music Hall of Famer.
The chilling lineup features retellings of The Tell-Tale Heart, The Black Cat, The Raven, and The Masque of the Red Death, each paired with a cocktail (or mocktail) crafted to match its haunting themes.
Guests must be 21 or older to attend the Edgar Allan Poe Speakeasy, and tickets start at $55. Attendees can enter the cemetery at 374 Martin Luther King. Jr Dr SE.
It is not necessary to have visited a previous Poe Speakeasy to enjoy this one. However, once the final night passes, this extraordinary chapter at Oakland Cemetery is one you can’t revisit.
