It’s been unseasonably warm this past week in Atlanta, and we’ve definitely been enjoying it. When the sun comes out, Atlantans take to the BeltLine, Piedmont Park, the sidewalks… and we always love that first warm bit of “spring” weather. But… it’s not spring yet, and next weeks’ weather will more than remind us of that!
It’s time to brace for a cold front, coming though Atlanta at the beginning of next week! And prep for possible flooding in some areas as well.
Wait, there’s a flood watch?
Yes. The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Atlanta, in effect from Tuesday afternoon (2/11/25) until Thursday morning (2/13/25).
According to the watch report, these areas are affected:
- north central Georgia
- Cherokee
- Cobb
- Dawson
- Fannin
- Forsyth
- Gilmer
- Hall
- Lumpkin
- North Fulton
- Pickens
- Union
The Weather Channel reports,
For flood safety tips, visit the National Weather Service’s website, here.Total amounts of 3-5″ of rain is expected to fall with locally higher amounts of up to 7″ possible where repeated rounds of precipitation occur. Numerous rivers and creeks are expected to rise to at least Minor Flood stage and larger impacts may be possible where the heaviest rain does occur.
How cold is it going to get next week?
According to the Weather Channel, on Sunday night (2/16/25), it could get as cold as 28 degrees. With temperatures this low below freezing, we could be at risk for frozen or burst pipes again, and ice on the roads.
All week, the low is expected to stay in the 30s – low 40s. The high will only make it up to the low 60s, with some days staying in the 40s instead.
So get ready for a bit of harsher weather than we’ve had recently, Atlanta. It’s still winter after all!
