Where can I experience the Gilded Age in Georgia?
The best spot to check out the luxurious and exorbitantly wealthy Gilded Age history is in Georgia’s coastal town of Jekyll Island.
Forbes says,
Jekyll Island’s connection to the Gilded Age is as the location of the Jekyll Island Club, a winter retreat for some of America’s wealthiest families. Up until World War II, the island served as a haven for the likes of the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, and Pulitzers, who built lavish “cottages” there.

And now, you can actually walk around the National Landmark Historic District, where these famously luxurious cottages were built and see the Jekyll Island Club Resort. You can even take a Landmark Trolley Tour of the Gilded Age district, which includes entry into a historic cottage

Jekyll Island is about five hours away from Atlanta, so it’s definitely not just a day trip. But the stunning beaches, cute artisan shops and delicious restaurants are surely enough to draw you away from the city for a weekend or even week-long trip.
And to top it all off? Jekyll Island’s Driftwood Beach is actually one of the best in the entire country. And yeah, that includes Florida and Hawai’i.
So take a trip into the Gilded Age one one of Georgia’s Golden Isles, (fitting, huh?) and visit Jekyll Island, GA!
