This morning, July 19th, 2024, a massive, worldwide IT outage is causing issues with computer systems all over the world. Flights, hospitals… pretty much all tech except your work laptop has been affected.
Wait, so what happened?
The outage began around 1am EST, but systems are slowly restarting after the outage. This global computer outage impacted Microsoft users whose software depends on the cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike. Right now, it is believed that the outage was due to an update pushed out by CrowdStrike.
Atlanta, while suffering from some outage, is mostly back up and running. Mayor Andre Dickens posted this on X:

The Atlanta Airport
Of course, with flights delayed or cancelled, lots of people have had to make changes to their travel plans. Hartsfield-Jackson said this on Twitter:
Emory Healthcare
Hospitals and clinics are open. Channel 2 Action News reports:
“Procedures at Ambulatory Surgery Centers and hospitals are delayed until our systems are stabilized,” the hospital said in a statement… Patients are encouraged to use MyChart to manage appointments… We apologize for the inconvenience to patients, families, and visitors.”
Georgia Department of Driver Services
According to Channel 2 Action News, the Georgia DDS’s services are unavailable statewide. They add, “Someone who scheduled a road test for Friday can still do the test, but won’t get their card until the outage is resolved.”
Georgia Department of Revenue
The department posted on X: “Our Georgia Tax Center and DRIVES applications are down this morning due to a worldwide outage. We encourage our customers to check back later.”

MARTA is currently running fine, however the MARTA website and real-time service information system is down. Riders will be able to buy tickets at the station, however.
