In case you aren’t super familiar, the Heisman Trophy, which was created in 1935, is an extremely prestigious award. Every year it is given to the most outstanding player in college football. Past recipients include Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Jayden Daniels.
Who won the Heisman Trophy 2024?
Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy this past weekend!
The race between Hunter and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty went down to the wire, and the voting results were the closest for the Heisman since 2009, per ESPN’s broadcast. Two quarterbacks — Miami’s Cam Ward and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel — rounded out the finalists for the award.
Travis Hunter placed first with 2,231 points and 552 first-place votes.
What is Travis Hunter’s connection to Atlanta?
Hunter’s family moved to Georgia in eight grade, where he attended Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, GA!
According to Atlanta News First,
Hunter graduated from Collins Hill High School in 2022 after setting numerous Gwinnett County single-season in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. As a senior, he helped Collins Hill cap off a perfect 15-0 record. He was also selected to play in the 2022 Polynesian Bowl, where he won offensive MVP honors with five receptions for 54 yards and an interception on defense.
Hunter is the 5th Heisman winner to have played high school football in Georgia!
We’re so proud of Travis Hunter, and so excited that one of Georgia’s very own has officially taken home the Heisman Trophy! And we can’t wait to see what’s in store for Hunter next!
