The City of Helen, better known as ‘Georgia’s Alpine Village’ is nestled in the Northeast Georgia Mountains. Transport yourselves from Georgia to Germany on this popular mini road trip in the peach state. Helen is famous for its beautiful alpine buildings scattered around, and a magical festive makeover every year for the holidays. However, it’s a perfect day out all year round. From tubing the river in the summer, to Oktoberfest in the fall, don’t miss out on one of Georgia’s most unique places to visit.
There’s a variety of events, shops, attractions, and places to visit. As well as all the untouchable natural resources that truly show off Georgia’s enchanting natural beauty. There’s even the first alpine coaster in Georgia located in downtown Helen.
Even though there’s a population of only 430 residents, Helen is the state’s third most visited city. There is no other town that packs so much charm and so much to do into only 2.1 square miles. The festive offerings include a Christmas parade, where you can give a wave to Santa Claus. This year’s parade takes place December 10, 2022 at 2 p.m.
The beloved Christmas parade takes place annually, and the city always will be extra magical throughout the holiday season. The Christmas decorations are the cherry on top of this storybook re-creation of an alpine village. If you visit later in the winter, the decorations may gone, but you could witness a snow-topped Helen.
With German-spiced restaurants, Old World towers and balconies, and specialty import shops tucked along its strasses and platzes. Make sure to add Helen to your must-see list if you’ve yet to visit this charming gem.
You can find Helen about two hours north east of Atlanta, via Route 19.
