It’s World Art Day, and we’ve got exciting news in the ~world of art~! A new USA Today ’10 Best Award’ has named Atlanta’s High Museum of Art as the 4th best art museum in the U.S.!
About the High Museum of Art
The High is the Southeast’s most iconic art museum. With over 18,000 works of art from nineteenth-century sculpture to contemporary folk art, there’s truly something for everyone at the High. The High has 7 permanent collections: African art, American art, European art, Decorative Arts and Design, Photography, Folk and Self-Taught Art and Modern & Contemporary art. Along with these incredible collections, they also host several rotating exhibits from all over the world. You’ll never find the same thing twice at the High!
Right now, the High has three exhibitions along with their permanent collections.
- ‘Hear Me Now: The Black Potters of Old Edgefield, South Carolina‘
- ‘Truth Told Slant: Contemporary Photography’
- ‘Shaheen Collection of French Works.’
How does USA Today decide who wins?
USA Today does several of ’10Best Awards’ throughout the year. After several nominees are submitted by a panel of experts at USA Today, 10Best editors “narrow the field to select the final set of nominees for the Readers’ Choice Awards.” Then, of course, USA Today readers vote for which nominee they’d like to see win!
So that means the High won based votes from USA Today readers!
We’re so happy to celebrate World Art Day with the news that we’ve got some of the best art in the country! So whether you’re looking for a fun date out to the art museum or you’d like to peruse the art by yourself or with friends, the High Museum of Art is the perfect place to check out!
Happy World Art Day, Atlanta!
