Georgia’s First Black-Owned Brewery ‘Hippin’ Hops’ Is Expanding Across Atlanta!

The owners of Georgia’s first Black-owned brewery have announced an expansion!

There’s a lot of love for the new Hippin’ Hops Brewery, which opened at 1308 Glenwood Ave. SE in the end of March. Although only two months have passed, two more locations are set to open across Atlanta. One in Stone Mountain and one in East Lake

The East Atlanta location is also an Oyster Bar, but the focus is obviously on their craft creations. Co-owner Clarence Boston told Atlanta Business Chronicle, “In East Atlanta, we didn’t want to focus too much on the restaurant aspect.”

“I mean, the food is going to be phenomenal,” he added. “But we have a very small menu versus East Lake. It will be a really big menu, and we’re going to distill our own spirits there as well.”

Boston co-owns Hippin’ Hops with his wife, Donnica. The entrepreneurial duo were planning on opening in September 2020 but faced delays due to the city’s alcohol licensing process.

There are so many incredible Black-owned businesses in Atlanta. Although Hippin’ Hops is not the first Black-owned craft beer brand in Georgia, it is believed to be the first Black-owned brewery operating out of its own space. The brewery will produce a variety of craft beer styles out of its three-barrel brewhouse and five-barrel tanks, which will be available for consumption at bars and restaurants around Atlanta.

The Stone Mountain will be located at 5644 Memorial Drive, set with an open, outdoor beer garden, complete with put-put golf and maybe even a ferris wheel! As for the East Lake location, you’ll be able to find it at 2380 Hosea L Williams Drive, and it’ll be the main focal point for the owner’s distillery project and business expansion. Plus Cheesesteaks will be on the menu, unlike their seafood location in East Atlanta Village.

Hippin’ Hops is expected to open their East Lake spot in July, and The Stone Mountain location in September.

Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for more info on the new Hippin’ Hops locations, coming to Atlanta soon!
