Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall in Ancient Egypt? The entire civilization is riddled with mysteries that we might never completely uncover. And luckily for us, Horizon of Khufu grants us an unparalleled look into the land of pyramids to discover some of these mystical secrets. Coming to 550 Somerset Terrace NE in just a few days, the multisensory VR experience will transport you to the Giza necropolis unlike ever before. Backed up by extensive Harvard research, Horizon of Khufu presents real, historical context that will both thrill and surprise you.
Put your VR headset and boom: sandy dunes and palm trees are standing right in front of you. As you wander through the mastabas (pharaoh tombs), the Nile River, the breathtaking pyramids of Giza and the funeral of King Khufu, you’ll learn about key societal and cultural norms of the period as you walk in the shoes of past pharaohs.
No need to book that flight, Ancient Egypt comes to you!
Horizon of Khufu opens next week, and tickets start at $21 — grab yours to experience Ancient Egypt!
Horizon of Khufu uses the latest virtual reality technology, which means you’ll be plunged into what feels like a parallel world as soon as you put on that headset. You’ll see other participants’ ‘avatars’ around you so you don’t bump into them, and a virtual guide will be with you every step of the way in case you’re lost (who wouldn’t be, in a completely new civilization?) Prepare to see birds flying around you, rays of sunlight and the sway of the Nile river, among so many other key moments that scream Ancient Egypt.
You’ll of course see the most famous monuments including the Giza pyramids and the legendary Sphinx — the opportunity to learn more fun facts about those well-known landmarks and the story behind them.
Horizon of Khufu is a result of collaboration with Egyptology professor Peter Der Manuelian and his team at Harvard. Leveraging data from their Giza Project, the experience authentically replicates Ancient Egypt. That means when you’re stepping into Horizon of Khufu’s world, you come close to actually navigating the sand dunes of the ancient civilization.
