This luminous installation that’s just been installed near the Mercedes Benz Stadium (pictured above by @shotsbygarrison), and it’s an interactive sculpture that reacts to touch. Bends Towards Justice honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with six arches that suggest a time-lapse sequence moving towards perfect closure, as a metaphor for justice.
Each side of the street features three arcs that get closer until they almost meet over the center of Martin Luther King Junior Drive. There’s also an incredible sculpture of MLK himself further down the road.
On each side of the sculpture, at the base of the largest arches, are pressure points for your hand to interact with the sculpture, causing a spectacle of light which can be seen from a distance. Each push is a push towards justice.
This incredible art installation was created by Joseph O’Connell & Creative Machines. Mayor Andre Dickens unveiled the sculpture as part of Black History Month on Monday, February 20.
So next time you’re near the Mercedes Benz Stadium, or hanging out around Centennial Yards, make sure to check out this new interactive sculpture.
