Earlier last week, Kroger, one of the U.S.’s largest grocery store chains announced that they’d be closing dozens of stores in the next 18 months.
According to WSB-TV Atlanta,
The Cincinnati-based company currently operates 1,239 stores across 16 states, meaning the closures will represent about 5% of its locations.
Which Georgia Krogers are closing?
Atlanta News First reported that these locations are closing down:
- 11877 Douglas Road in Alpharetta – Closing Aug. 16, 2025
- 2452 Morosgo Way in Atlanta – Closing July 19, 2025
- 3855 Buford Highway in Brookhaven – Closing Oct. 18, 2025
- 3479 Memorial Drive in Decatur – Closing Sept. 13, 2025
With the earliest closings expected as early as next month, you definitely need to make a special shopping trip to the Kroger near you!
What will happen to the employees that work in those Krogers?
Kroger did announce, according to Atlanta News First, “employees at the affected stores will be offered positions at other stores.”
Are any of the closing Krogers Atlanta’s nicknamed locations?
Atlanta has a tradition of giving Kroger locations a nickname–some positive, and some not so positive. The most infamous is, of course, Murder Kroger (or BeltLine Kroger). Other well-known Krogers also have nicknames, but don’t worry: the most famous ones not a part of the closing plan.
The only named Kroger that will be closing is Sh*tty Center Kroger in Belvedere Plaza. The Kroger Citi Center has been there for decades, but is finally closing in September. Even if its nickname indicates that the Kroger Citi Center won’t be missed… it will be.
