According to a new study conducted by Solitaired, there’s a reason you feel like you’re waiting in the grocery store checkout line forever. Atlanta has some of the longest lines of any major U.S. city… especially at certain locations. Keep scrolling to learn more.
Where does Atlanta rank on the list of longest grocery store lines in a major U.S. city?

Atlanta comes in at #7 when it comes to other major U.S. cities.
Here is the top 10 ranking for the biggest U.S. cities with the longest grocery store lines:
- Denver, CO
- Nashville, TN
- Louisville, KY
- Indianapolis, IN
- Columbus, OH
- Washington, DC
- Atlanta, GA
- Detroit, MI
- San Jose, CA
- Philadelphia, PA
If you add in non-major cities, Atlanta actually comes in at #13, after Durham, North Carolina.
Where are the lines the worst in Atlanta?

According to the data, the longest lines are usually in Kroger, Walmart and Publix. Which makes sense since these three stores are some of the most popular grocery choices in the ATL.
When it comes to specific grocery stores with terribly long lines, these are the longest wait times:
- Kroger on 590 Cascade Ave SW
- Walmart Supercenter on 2427 Gresham Rd S E
- Walmart Supercenter on 844 Cleveland Ave SW
In some good news, Atlanta grocery stores do not rank highly on the list of grocery stores with the highest prices OR grocery store with the worst customer service. So hey, even if the line has a bit of a wait, at least our stores are friendly and affordable!
