This summer embark on a journey through the mathematical patterns that make up our world–through an exciting mirror maze at Fernbank! Opening on June 8th, 2024, “A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature” is an incredible (some might say aMAZEing), journey to explore the patterns in our world. Learn about the similarities, differences, and mathematical miracles of the earth, from the veins of a leaf to the internal structures of massive buildings… and so much more!
What can guests of the Mirror Maze exhibit expect?
As you walk into the new Fernbank exhibit, you’ll start with an immersive theatrical presentation, displaying footage of nature, the human body, and even art and architecture. You’ll learn, with superimposed graphics, what patterns make up these designs: both natural and man-made. And then, the real fun begins! Enter the mirror maze and discover the fractal patterns found in nature! The maze will also feature motion-activated elements that flash on the mirrors themselves!
After exploring the interactive mirror maze, “A Mirror Maze: Numbers in Nature” opens to tons of hands-on and digital interactive displays. You’ll be able to do everything from exploring a two-way mirror that superimposes patterns on your own body, to composing music, and enjoying the patterns found there! The exhibit will also feature some pretty cool artifacts: gaze in awe at the patterns found in Bighorn sheep antlers, honeycomb, and an aluminum anthill casting!
