This Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta is celebrating and remembering the legacy of a true American hero. The Center has events planned from January 12th-15th, and you don’t want to miss out.

Friday, January 12th
Truth On The Rocks: Who said history wasn’t fun?
7pm – 10:30pm at The Center
This event combines dancing, cocktails and conversation that connect the events of history to today. The goal of Truth On The Rocks is to make history accessible and fun to learn about. Grab a drink and explore the galleries, and the first to enjoy the newest Martin Luther King, Jr. Exhibit at The Center, which is being unveiled that night. And join in the dance with an Ailey Revelations Celebration workshop!
This inaugural session of Truth On The Rocks is $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Your ticket includes one drink and lite bites.
Saturday, January 13th

Enjoy the museum and learning all about Dr. King in the new exhibit for FREE.
The New Martin Luther King Jr. Exhibit is a 2024 rotation of the Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection: We Who Believe in Freedom: 1964–A Transformative Year in Civil Rights.
This new exhibit, “commemorates 1964 as a milestone year for the American civil rights movement.”
The Center says, “Join us as we look back at the grassroots efforts of Freedom Summer activists in Mississippi, remember the historic signing of the Civil Rights Act effectively ending Jim Crow segregation in the United States, and celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic win as the recipient of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize, firmly placing the movement on the world stage.”
Monday, January 15th
Special Alliance Theatre Performance at the Center
Enjoy a breathtaking performance from an Alliance Theatre’s Palefsky Collision Project emerging artist. During the performance, they reimagine their summer performance through the lines of the letters to Dr.King.
This event is free with a ticket purchase into The Center.
All Weekend (Jan 13th-15th)
King Scavenger Hunt from 12PM – 4PM in the Lobby
Head to a station beside the front desk to recieve a Martin Luther King Jr. Scavenger Hunt Card. Then explore the galleries to discover facts about Dr. King, and answer questions.
Two scavenger hunts are available: one for children age 2-6, consisting of more pictures, and one for children 7+ and adults, which will feature more content.
Once you’ve completed your card, head to the 3rd floor balcony to receive a special Scavenger Hunt exclusive prize.
King Collage Mural from 12PM – 4PM on the 3rd Floor Mezzanine
Use your creative skills to create a collaborative portrait of Dr. King. Every guest will be given a sheet of paper with a figure on it to design as you want. Then, combine your paper with the others on the mural to create a rendition of Dr. King.
King Dream Tapestry from 12PM – 4PM on the 3rd Floor Mezzanine
To pay homage to King’s famous “I Have A Dream” speech, guests will be given a cloud shaped paper, where they can write their own dreams. You can decorate your cloud and give it to a staff member, who will put all the finished dreams together to create a colorful tapestry on the 3rd floor balcony.
King Activity and Coloring Sheets from 12PM – 4PM on the 3rd Floor Mezzanine
Activity and coloring sheets are also available, and they can be done at The Center or at home. Along with the coloring page, guests will receive a crossword puzzle, and a pledge card.
And there will also be giveaways all weekend, as long as supplies last!
