Here in Atlanta, we enjoy so many benefits of the city: amazing restaurants, fun things to do all the time, access to great doctors, jobs, and so much more. So it’s no surprise, really, that The Economist Intelligence Unit, a sister company of The Economist, has officially named Atlanta as the 2nd ‘most livable city in the U.S.’ for 2024!
How did they come up with this ranking?
The Economist Intelligence Unit uses a The Global Liveability Index, which “quantifies the challenges presented to an individual’s lifestyle in 173 cities worldwide.”
The report delves into a very complex rank-ordering system, which looks at which cities have the best (and worst) living conditions, how international conflict affects each city and the individuals living there, how emerging markets improve livability, and so much more.
In the United States, Atlanta ranked #2 in livability, coming in just after Honolulu, Hawai’i.
This might not come as too much of a surprise, as Atlanta just ranked the 2nd best city for renters to live in, according to Rent Cafe!
Other rankings for Atlanta by EUI
You might be wondering: if we ranked so highly in the United States, how’d we do on the world stage? Surprisingly or not, Atlanta also ranked very high among the most livable places in the world right now as well. According to the EUI’s Livability Index, Atlanta ranked number 29 out of all the cities in the world. And in even more impressive news, our city ranked among the “biggest movers up” in 2024, meaning Atlanta is an even better place to live this year than last year! This means that Atlanta has good access to healthcare, jobs, a safe living environment and more.
