There’s nothing quite like enjoying the majestic beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains in the spring, just a short drive from Atlanta. And this year, Atlantans are in luck because there’s a totally unique way to explore the woods: on an electric motor-assisted rail bike! Keep scrolling to learn more about Blue Ridge Scenic Railway’s iconic rail bikes, and how you can enjoy them for yourself.
What is a rail bike?
Blue Ridge’s rail bikes are a super cool way to explore the beauty of the mountains in a leisurely way. These motor-assisted rail bikes connect to a railroad (like a train) but let you do the pedaling!
With state-of-the-art seats and adjustable seat belts, the rail bikes are comfortable for everyone!
Oh, and you don’t have to be a pro-biker to enjoy. Because these bikes are motor-assisted, you can relax and pedal leisurely instead of fighting your way along the trail! Blue Ridge notes that riders should be able to bike recumbently for 70–90 minutes at low exertion to enjoy the experience.
What is the rail bike excursion in Blue Ridge like?
Your rail bike tour is a wonderful way to experience nature this spring, summer and even fall, in Blue Ridge! Your tour will leave the historic downtown Blue Ridge depot and begin an 11 mile round-trip adventure, meandering alongside streams, vineyards, and the tall, swaying Georgia pines.
Halfway through the excursion, your friendly guide will pause the tour to allow you to snap some photos of the local flora and fauna.
Okay, okay, I’ve gotta check this out! Gimme the details.
