Summer is definitely here in the ATL, and we’re feelin’ it every day! It’s been unseasonably hot and stormy this year so far, and we’ve got more of that type of weather on the way today, July 8th, 2025.
According to a report from Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Eboni Deon at WSB-TV 2,
Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s and with heat indices in the upper 90s to nearly 100 degrees.
Is today’s weather record-setting?

No, but almost. Today’s high is expected to be 96 degrees, and sunny. The previous record high for July 8th was actually set in 1986 at 100 degrees. So it might feel like it’s hotter than ever… but actually, it’s just below record heat.
Will it storm tonight?
It’s been raining consistently every afternoon in the ATL, and there’s some chance of it tonight too. While isolated showers and storms are possible today and tomorrow, it probably isn’t enough to push the heat out.
How do I stay safe in the heat?

If you’re worried about the heat, there are plenty of things you can do to stay safe:
- Make sure to hydrate with water and drinks that have electrolytes! It’ll help replace what you sweat out.
- Stay out of the sun. Staying out of direct sunlight can protect you from burns and keep you cooler.
- Stay inside when possible at peak temperatures. It might be nice to take a little walk outside during the morning or evening, but being outside in the blistering heat might not be a great idea.
And if you’re looking for some ways to stay cool and still have some fun, today’s a great time for a stroll through one of Atlanta’s iconic museums!
