One of the pride and joys of Atlanta is our incredibly efficient and massive international airport. Hartsfield-Jackson is the travel hub of the southeast, seeing millions of travelers every year. And for the past twenty years, we’ve proudly hosted the official ‘busiest airport in the world,’ but… not anymore. There’s a new busiest airport for the start of 2025.
Where is the busiest airport in the world?
In a report from The Street, according to aviation analytics platform Cirium Diio’s, Dubai International Airport (DXB) is officially the ‘busiest airport in the world.’
The report says that Dubai International,
will see 15.1 million departing seats in the first three months of 2025, making it the busiest airport in the world. For comparison, Atlanta will have 14.8 million departures.
How many people fly through Atlanta?
Now, the Atlanta airport is still the 2nd busiest airport in the world, so it still sees millions and millions of travelers every year. In 2024 alone, Hartsfield-Jackson saw around 104.6 million travelers.
In comparison, DXB saw only 83 million travelers in 2024, according to The Street.
Will the Atlanta Airport regain its title by the end of the year?
Experts say that there’s a good chance the Atlanta airport will retain our coveted title as the ‘busiest airport in the world’ by the end of 2025.
The Street reports,
Even so, numbers are expected to even out, and Hartsfield-Jackson will once again be the busiest airport in the world once the year is over and the numbers for all of 2025 are calculated.
All we can do is wait and see if people choose ATL to travel this year! Either way, we know we’ve got the best airport in the world… and no, we’re not biased! 😉
