What is Operation Southern Slow Down?
Atlanta drivers have notoriously lead feet when it comes to driving on the interstate. Well, it’s time to lock in, ATL, because Operation Southern Slowdown is next week, and you don’t want a speeding ticket… or worse, to hurt someone!
According to the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Program,
Operation Southern Slow Down is an annual, week-long speed enforcement and public education campaign conducted in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the southeastern states of Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee. This initiative builds on a longstanding tradition of collaboration and aims to reduce speed-related fatalities and serious injury crashes by targeting speeding and aggressive driving violations.
You’ll see increased law enforcement related to speeding and aggressive driving during the campaign. In other words, more speeding tickets.
When is Operation Southern Slow Down in Atlanta?
Operation Southern Slowdown will be from July 13 – 18, 2026, according to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
How can I avoid getting a ticket during Operation Southern Slow Down?
Well… don’t speed!
Operation Southern Slow Down means more police will be patrolling, so you might see more red and blue lights… but you should ALWAYS drive the speed limit for your safety and the safety of drivers all around you!
