What is Out on Film?

Established in 1987 by Rebecca Ranson and other community leaders, Out on Film, is a nearly four-decade-long tradition in the ATL.
As the largest queer film festival in the south, the event has gained tons of popularity throughout the years. In fact, what began as a small, 5-day film festival has grown into a massive 11-day, Oscar® qualifying film festival that attracts thousands of movie-goers. (Last year’s festival attracted more than 15,000 patrons both in person and virtually across the nation.)
As an independent organization, Out on Film is a celebration of LGBTQ stories and artists including narrative features, documentaries, short films and premieres.
And to top it all off, Out on Film is one of Moviemaker Magazine’s “50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee.”
What can film festival attendees expect?

Festival-goers can expect a wonderful line up of events and movies!
This year, Out on Film will feature: 38 features (20 narrative films, 18 documentaries, five of which are streaming-only films) and 105 shorts films (in 19 shorts programs) for a total of 153 films. Out of all of these films, the festival will host:
- 9 world premieres
- 4 international premieres
- 10 U.S. premieres
- 32 regional premieres
Out on Film’s art campaign for the year is “Queer Propaganda.” You can see a list of all the films and what to expect on Out on Film’s website, here!
