Calling all film lovers and small town enthusiasts! Sometimes you just need to break away from the city for a minute and relax in a less bustling town! And the perfect place to go? Rome, Georgia! Rome is known for its connection to film and the arts, one of the most beautiful historic cemeteries, adorable local eateries, and access to the Etowah river for fun tubing excursions!
Why Rome?
Rome, GA is a cute small town, but with the activities and liveliness of a bigger metro area. They’ve got tons of delicious local cuisine, bars, and activities to do!
And Rome is well known for being a HUGE film city. Along with hosting the Rome International Film Fest, or RIFF, every November, which hosts celebrities like Billy Bob Thornton, Ethan Hawk, and so many more, tons of blockbusters and famous shows film in Rome all year round. Catch the iconic lit up bridge in Rome at the beginning of Black Widow, or check out the iconic Stranger Things house! And With strong film schools nearby, there are always indie projects happening, too!
If you’re looking for some outdoor activities, you need to go on a river float or take a kayak down the Etowah River! Spend the day in the warm weather, floating and swimming, and then dry off for some local food and drinks! You can also explore Rome’s iconic terraced cemetery, Myrtle Hill Cemetery, which stands right above the heart of their downtown. The massive cemetery is gorgeous, and if you hike to the top, you can see a great view of the city. (We recommend doing it at sunrise or sunset, to see all the golden light spill over Rome.)
