It might seem like a thing of the distant future: self-driving cars picking you up for your Uber ride. But it’s actually happening way sooner than we thought, right here in Atlanta!
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, self-driving cars are headed Atlanta’s way in early 2025–and you could even get one on the Uber app for your ride! Waymo is partnering with Uber to bring the autonomous cars to the ATL, so you can try them out for yourself!
What is Waymo?
Waymo is the world’s first autonomous ride-hailing service. Their cars are fully electric and available 24/7 (a car is never off the clock)! Sothey can always get you exactly where you need to go.

Is there any driver at all?
And these rides will be fully autonomous. That means there’s no human behind the wheel at all.
What if I don’t want to have a driverless Uber Ride?
No worries! If you’d like to try out self-driving Uber rides, you can opt in by checking Autonomous Vehicles in your preferences in the app. If you do not want to try it, feel free to not opt-in! And of course, if you opt-in but then change your mind, you can always decline the ride if you match with an AV!
The drivers aren’t going anywhere, Uber is just adding self-driving cars in 2025.
So try it out, Atlanta! Check out the incredible Waymo self-driving cars, coming to Atlanta in 2025!
