If you had plans to go out and about this evening in the ATL, you might want to postpone them. Today, May 19th, 2025, Atlanta is expected to get some pretty severe weather. Here’s what we know so far.
According to the National Weather Service,
Showers and thunderstorms will advance across far north Georgia this morning, which will be capable of producing gusty winds, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall.
Another cluster of scattered thunderstorms will be possible in portions of north and east Georgia this afternoon. A few thunderstorms within this cluster could become strong to severe, capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail, along with frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall.
When will the storms roll in?

Today, May 19th, the storms are expected to be the most severe in Atlanta between 2pm and 6pm.
Is it going to hail?
The National Weather Service predicts that there is a chance for severe weather like frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and even hail. Atlantans should also be conscious of potentially damaging wind, and try to secure outdoor objects that could become projectiles. (So if you’ve got patio chairs, bring them inside so they don’t blow around!)
Will there be more storms this week in Atlanta?

The National Weather Service also predicts storms and a cold front throughout the week, saying,
A cold front will bring numerous thunderstorms to north and central Georgia from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday as it advances through area. A few storms could be strong to severe, with the greatest likelihood in portions of far northwest Georgia. Severe thunderstorms that occur will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and hail. A brief tornado also cannot be ruled out.
