The forecast for this weekend won’t be as pretty and sunny as it’s been all week, unfortunately. As much as we’ve loved the mid-60s, low 70s weather, we’re in for a rough storm this weekend. Here’s what we know.
According to meteorologists at WSB-TB 2 Atlanta,
A potential severe weather outbreak is possible to our west Friday into Saturday morning. By daybreak Saturday, a strong or severe storm is possible in northwest Georgia… The main system will arrive for the rest of north Georgia and metro Atlanta late Saturday and last through early Sunday morning.
Here’s what you can expect from the storm
Meteorologists predict that this storm could bring:
- damaging winds
- large hail
- tornadoes, including a possibility of strong tornadoes
**It is currently too early to get an accurate forecast for the possibility of a tornado, but the conditions could be right for one.
According to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution,
metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia are under a Level 3 of 5 risk for severe weather on both Saturday and Sunday.
How should I prepare for the storm?
You should prepare for this storm like you would any other big thunderstorm! We’ve got some tips for you below, but remember–the most important thing is to not panic!
- Change up your devices, in case you lose power.
- Have some non-perishable food, again, in case you lose power.
- Don’t go outside in the weather, try to remain inside as much as possible.
- Do not drive in inclement weather conditions; if you do have to travel, use extreme caution & don’t follow too close.
- Don’t cross standing water, since you don’t know how deep it could be.
Get ready for a stormy weekend, Atlanta. Could be a great time to curl up with a good book!
