Recently, there have been lots of snow maps posted around social media platforms claiming anywhere from 10-13 inches of snow is on the way to Atlanta.
A lot of people are hopeful this is true, and a lot are hoping that it’s absolutely not. But whether you’re hoping the weather turns snowy or not, we’re all wondering one thing: will it snow in Atlanta?
Will there be snow in Atlanta this January?
So here’s the truth: it’s not impossible. The viral posts that have been circulating show a forecast that’s 10 days to two weeks out… and a lot can change in that short amount of time. That doesn’t mean the answer is definitely yes or definitely no, though.
Not a super satisfying answer, we know.
11 Alive News reports, “Weather models begin to agree on winter precipitation about 7 days away from the event. Then, as the event nears, usually around 3 days away, meteorologists will have a better grasp on the type of precipitation and the potential amounts of accumulation. ”
What’s the weather actually going to be like?
What we do know for sure is that colder weather is on the way to Atlanta soon.
According to the meteorologists at 11 Alive,
Temperatures are expected to be way below average in the coming weeks. Even though it is winter, we are supposed to be near the mid to low 50s. The climate prediction center has forecasted an Arctic blast that will put our temperatures well below average and close to the freezing range.
Currently, a wintery mix with rain and possible sleet or snow is headed to the north Georgia mountains by around January 6th, 2025.
So, snow or not: it’s gonna be a cold January in Atlanta. Make sure to bundle up and stay warm as it gets super chilly outside!
