What is Street Dance: Jamaica Independence?
Presented by Rockers Unltd. and The Sound Table, the creators of Rum Punch Brunch, Street Dance is the largest celebration of Jamaican Independence in Atlanta.
And this year, Fulton County will have a special proclamation to help celebrate the city’s connection to the Jamaican diaspora throughout metro Atlanta and Fulton County! Fulton County will officially recognize August 8, 2026, as Jamaican Cultural Day, honoring the enduring cultural, economic, and civic contributions of the Jamaican-American community while celebrating Jamaica’s Independence.
According to the Atlanta Regional Commission, Jamaican-born residents represent the largest Caribbean-born population in the region, while Fulton County remains one of Georgia’s most internationally connected communities. The recognition also reflects Jamaica’s global cultural influence, including UNESCO’s designation of Reggae Music as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In a statement, Street Dance organizers said,
This recognition is bigger than one event. It’s a celebration of generations of Jamaicans and Jamaican-Americans whose music, food, entrepreneurship, creativity, and community continue to leave a lasting mark on Atlanta. Jamaican Cultural Day is a tribute to that legacy and an invitation for everyone to celebrate it together.
What can attendees expect at Street Dance?
Now, going into its 8th year, attendees can get ready for the biggest Street Dance Jamaican Independence Day celebration yet! Here are just some of the fun things you can get excited for:
