A Metro Atlanta city just made Fortune’s list of the top 50 ‘family-friendly communities in the U.S.’! Which community made the list? Well, coming in at #27, we’ve got Suwanee, GA!
Why is Suwanee, GA in the top 50 family-friendly communities?
First of all, this study was conducted by Fortune.com, which, “reviewed more than 2,000 cities nationwide and analyzed nearly 200 data categories to find the best place in each state.”
So why Suwanee? Actually… it’s part of a larger trend. People are moving to the exurbs, or the edges of cities. They’re some of the fastest-growing places, according to the Census Bureau. Fortune says:
“Edge cities fill a gap for people priced out of busy metros… They’re typically housing clusters defined by a city square or public park.”
And it’s not just about finding somewhere for your immediate family to thrive. Fortune notes:
“With a growing portion of Americans caring for both children and aging parents, more people want to live where multigenerational families can thrive.”

With a population of just under 23,000, Suwanee comes in at #27. Suwanee is known for its beautiful parks, fun community-centered events, and several mixed-use developments.
And according to Suwanee’s website, they’ve got some of the best schools around. They say,
“Suwanee’s young residents are served by Gwinnett County Schools, the largest school system in Georgia and one of the most respected in the country. Gwinnett County Schools is a two-time winner of the Broad Prize for Urban Education.”
With lots of art, great schools, and tons of outlets for outdoor recreation, Suwanee is definitely one of the best places in the country to raise a family and settle down.
