On June 24th, two tragic back-to-back earthquakes hit Venezuela, causing mass destruction and devastation. Now, in the wake of such disaster, people are looking for ways to help survivors and families of victims. We’ve compiled a list of organizations that you can donate to to help out, down below. What happened?
Nearly two weeks ago, twin earthquakes hit Venezuela: the first a magnitude 7.2 earthquake and the second with a magnitude 7.5 earthquake–one of the strongest earthquakes to hit the country in over a century, according to reports.
The current death toll is at least 2,295, according to the Associated Press. Thousands are injured and more than 50,000 people are reportedly still missing. The death toll is expected to rise as the devastating natural disaster develops.
Now, many from all over the world are looking for ways to show their support and send much-needed supplies to the people of Venezuela, including Atlantans.
Here’s how you can help the earthquake victims in Venezuela right now
Making a monetary donation might be the best way for many to help out. Below are some places you can donate financially to help Venezuela directly (in no particular order).
- The Atlanta Braves Foundation – The Atlanta Braves Foundation will match fan donations up to $25,000 through July 12th, with all proceeds going to relief efforts in Venezuela.
- Donate to the UNHRC (The UN Refugee Agency) – The UNHCR is on the ground in Venezuela to aid in relief efforts.
- Global Empowerment Mission (GEM) – Partnering with I Love Venezuela, the South Florida-based organization is seeking monetary donations to help get aid out of Miami and into Venezuela. To donate, you can either donate to United Way Miami or GEM directly.
- World Central Kitchen – donate to WCK to help get much needed food to communities in Venezuela.
- Save the Children – donate to Save the Children, which is working with local partners to provide healthcare, shelter, food, child protection and other lifesaving support.
