Westside Park Finally Opens As Atlanta’s Largest Green Space

The anticipated Westside Park in Atlanta has finally opened!

Following fifteen years of planning, the time has come for the Westside Park to finally open to the public. It’s become Atlanta’s largest greenspace, and is located around Bellwood Quarry. The park will be opening Friday, following a delayed opening ceremony cancelled due to weather.

Westside Park connects to the Atlanta BeltLine’s Westside Trail northern extension, the Westside BeltLine Connector, and Proctor Creek Greenway in the future.

The park was originally planned to be opened on Tuesday 17 August, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening. But was rescheduled to Friday 20 August, which means the park is officially opening.

The new $44 million Westside Park will serve as a catalyst for surrounding communities and a source for
critical emergency water reserves for the City.

As well as the two and a half miles of bike and hike trails, there will be public art such as sculptures, play grounds, open fields, and more. There will even be viewing spots of the former quarry, including one up on the high cliffs, securing a killer view of the park and city.

The City of Atlanta purchased the Bellwood Quarry in April 2006. In August 2019, Mayor Bottoms announced a $17.5 million grant from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to support Westside Park. The park faced delays due to the pandemic but it’s finally time to get our first look of the park.

By completion, the park will be 280 acres and become the biggest park in the city. Head to the park for it’s grand opening, on Friday 20 August. You can find Westside Park at the intersection of Johnson Road and Grove Park Place.
