With tons of new maps and graphics spreading over social media, it’s safe to say many Atlantans feel they’ve been promised (for better or for worse) a snowy start to the new year. But that might not be exactly the case here in the ATL.
Will it snow in Atlanta?
Of course, weather is prone to change, so nothing can be said with 100% certainty yet. But according to most models, the short answer is no. It will not snow in Atlanta this week.
According to a new report from 11Alive,
Both the European and American [weather] models show the track of the low staying north of Georgia. With this, the cold air would get scoured out of Georgia before the moisture arrives. This would leave us with all rain. The mess of wintry weather would stay to our north — with significant icing and snow possible where the cold clashes with the moisture.
Will we get any winter weather at all?
If reading this is a little disappointing (some of those posts promised up to 12 inches of snow, after all), then don’t worry. We’re still in for some wintery weather in terms of temperature!
It’s going to be COLD next week, so be sure to bundle up! 11Alive reports, “Highs will struggle to get above 40 degrees in the city of Atlanta with lows in the 20s.”
So while our neighbors to the north get some snow and wintry mixes, we’ll stay mostly out of it this go round.
But that doesn’t mean we should be prepared and stay safe! Try not to drive on any roads with ice on them, stay nice and warm during cold weather, and drip your faucets at night when the temperatures drop below freezing!
Stay safe, warm and dry Atlanta!
