According to local weather models, Atlanta is on track for our first 90-degree day on Friday, April 17th.
This would break the current record for the earliest 90-degree day in the city, which was set on April 23rd, 1980.
What’s the weather usually like this time of year?
The average high for Atlanta on April 17th is actually pretty low, at 69 degrees. Last year April 17th had a high of 71 degrees, making this 90 degree prediction a nearly 20 degree jump from last year.
June 2nd is the typical average for the first 90 degree day of the year in Atlanta, making this Friday’s weather prediction a six-week-early weather pattern.
That’s not all. Atlanta is in for a record breaking heat wave

It’s not just the earliest 90 degree day for Atlanta either.
According to CBS News,
Record high temperatures could also be broken in the coming days. The forecast high for Wednesday is 88 degrees, which would top the standing record of 87 set in 1972. Thursday’s forecast high of 87 would break the record of 86 set in 1896.
Friday’s expected high of 90 degrees would surpass the record of 89, also set in 1896, while Saturday’s forecast high of 90 would exceed the record of 87 set in 2002.
