Earlier this week, the Cumberland Barnes & Noble announced that they’d be officially closing their doors this summer… and Atlantans are super sad to see it go. The 20,000 square foot store, with the classic Barnes & Noble, 2-story architecture, opened in 1996, making it a staple of the community for the past 30 years.
Leaders of Barnes & Noble Cumberland wrote in a statement,
We have loved being a part of your community for the last 30 years and will miss being here. We continue to look for a suitable new store in this neighborhood.
Of course, this news comes right after the Edgewood Barnes & Noble announced it would re-open to the public this July.
When will the Cumberland Barnes & Noble close?

The store’s last day open will be Wednesday, August 19th, 2026.
They are currently doing a ‘Big Book Sale’, with 30-50% off in stock merchandise. Books are currently 40%, and you don’t want to miss out! Go get that summer read before it goes off sale.
The store is located at 2952 Cobb Parkway.
What’s replacing the Cumberland Barnes & Noble?

According to local reports, the Cumberland Barnes & Noble could be replaced by a new RaceTrac.
Tomorrow’s News Today Atlanta reports,The new RaceTrac, roughly four times the size of the company’s typical units, will feature a convenience store, but could also house a sit-down restaurant, offices, retail, training and meeting space, and a chef’s kitchen, among other things, according to the 2023 filing.
As we know more about this new RaceTrac development, we’ll let you know too, of course.
Go get your summer reading books before it’s too late, Atlanta! Check out Barnes & Noble before it closes this August.
