10 Fun And Festive Things To Do In Atlanta This December

‘Tis officially the season.

December is here, folks. While the holidays are certainly a shade different than before, there’s still plenty of light to go around. Find out the most fun and festive things to do in Dallas this December and fill yourself with holiday cheer.

1. Hit the Ice

When it comes to active winter activities, there’s no sport more festive and ceremonial of the holiday season than ice skating. The only way you can top that if the rink is located in the crisp open air of the city, for that, look no further than Avalon on Ice.

2. Experience one of “National Geographic’s Top 10 Light Displays in the World”

The holidays are alive in the south. Despite all the madness, the City of Atlanta is lighting up with magical holiday cheer. From November 20 to January 4, the immaculate Callaway Gardens’ Fantasy In Lights display will be open to the public to enjoy.

3. Mentally Prepare Yourself for the Shark Cage

Sharks are misunderstood creatures. Sure, you’ve seen them in blockbuster films like Jaws and, of course, its ramped-up successor, Sharknado, but let’s be honest: Hollywood tends to exaggerate their malice. Honestly, they’re much different creatures when you meet them up close and in person – which is exactly what the Georgia Aquarium wants you to do at their coming exhibition: Predators of the Deep.

4. Get Lost in Wonderland

For its 10th year running, Garden Lights, Holiday Nightsis illuminating the grounds of the Atlanta Botanical Garden with spectacular and festive lighting displays to bring cheer to the holiday season.

5. Dine in an Igloo and Skate the Sky

I think we can all agree that 2020 has been, shall we say, less than magical. Well things are looking up (literally, speaking) for this Christmas season, as Ponce City Market is transforming their rooftop into a Winter Dreamland complete with igloos for outdoor dining and a Skate the Sky ice skating rink for their Holidays on the Roof event!

6. Explore Snow Island In A Snow Tube

Any place named “License to Chill” is probably a cool spot worth checking out, especially when you know the place offers a blizzard of fun winter activities. Tube down snowbanks, ice skate, and more this winter at License to Chill Snow Island at Lanier Islands!

7. Check the Chick-Fil-A Lights

Throughout the holidays, Chick-Fil-A stores across the country begin the sale of its cheery Peppermint Chip Milkshakes (available today, November 16), to commemorate the most wonderful time of the year. One of the Georgia-based chicken chain’s locations, however, go a step further. Treat yourself this season at Chick-Fil-A in Athens, Georgia for a front-row parking spot to their epic holiday light spectacle!

8. Share a Shot of Christmas Cheer With Santa

Something tells me that by the end of this year, we’ll all have devolved into the ‘humbug’ spirit of Ebenezer Scrooge and The Grinch. However, there is one thing this November has in store for us that might brighten you with a welcome dose – accompanied by a stiff glass – of Christmas cheer: the Miracle Christmas-themed pop-up bar, and tiki-themed cousin, Sippin’ Santa, will be returning to Atlanta this season with multiple locations!

9. Indulge in Magical Holiday Festivities at Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain Park, home of the Pumpkin Festival, and other immersive seasonal events, will once again host their massive Christmas celebration with magical experiences, holiday favorites, special holiday entertainment, and family-friendly fun!

10. Roll into Atlanta’s New Blacklight Bowling Alley

Need to channel all the pent-up election-fueled anxiety into something fun and a tad bit destructive? Swing into the Bowlero at Atlanta Station, and smash some pins while sipping on a bowling-ball-sized fishbowl cocktail for a start.
