What is Winter Wonderland: Celebration & Traditions Around the World?
Every year, this special exhibit surrounds the Great Hall of the museum with gorgeously decorated trees and tons of cool display cases highlighting cultural celebrations, events ,and traditions from across the globe.
Winter Wonderland: Celebrations & Traditions Around the World tells stories contributed by local consulates and community partnerships, so you’re learning all about different cultures right from people who are a part of those cultures.
Guests can expect the museum to transform into a winter wonderland, full with arts, crafts, symbols and ornaments to celebrate, well… how we celebrate!
68 Voices
And new this year, ’68 Voices’ is coming to the Museum, in conjunction with Winter Wonderland.
This artistic series, narrated in 68 Mexican indigenous languages, highlights the cultural treasures and heritage behind the tales of an indigenous community rich in traditions that celebrate diversity.
Fernbank states,
The series seeks to create an inclusive and contemporary project that doesn’t fall into the Mexican ‘cliché,’ but instead represents a search for a reinterpretation of culture through Mexican illustrators, based on the work of authors like Miguel León Portilla, Andrés Henestrosa, Hermenegildo López, Isaac Esau Carrillo Can, Manuel Espinosa Sainos, as well as traditions and stories of oral tradition, revealing the importance of these pieces.
