One thing we know about Georgia, is that we’ve got amazing schools here. Not only is Atlanta one of the best cities for recent grads, but we’re also one of the most highly-educated cities in the United States. To top it all off, recently two Georgia universities have been deemed the ‘New Ivies’ of the United States, showing off our academic chops to some of the top schools in the nation, like Harvard, Yale and Princeton.
And now, according to a new report by U.S. News & World, two Georgia universities have landed on the list of the ‘best global universities’, therefore challenging schools from all over the planet! Keep scrolling to learn more!
Which two Georgia universities have ranked among the ‘best global universities’?
Our two new Ivies made the cut for the best schools in the world:
- Emory University
- Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech)
Emory University ranks at #69 on the list, which is topped by Harvard. Georgia Tech is not far behind, with a #79 rank out of every university on the planet! Georgia Tech tied with the famous Technical University of Munich for the 79th spot.
These two schools both have high ranking programs as well, with Emory’s Public, Environmental and Occupational Health program coming in at #11 globally, and Georgia Tech’s Physical Chemistry program and Condensed Matter Physics program coming in at #8 and #9 in the world, respectively.
How did U.S. News & World come up with this data?
Here’s how they did it:
To create the pool of 2,346, U.S. News first included the top 250 universities in the results of Clarivate’s global reputation survey, described below. Next, U.S. News added any other institutions that met the minimum threshold of at least 1,250 papers published from 2019 to 2023. This paper threshold is unchanged from the last ranking. Those two criteria created the final 2025-2026 ranking pool of 2,346 institutions from which U.S. News ranked the top-scoring 2,250 universities in the overall ranking.
