Last week, the Food and Drug Administration declared that cucumbers grown and distributed by Bedner Growers Inc. were linked to a multi-state Salmonella outbreak.
Wait, a salmonella outbreak?
That’s right. The FDA announced the Bedner Growers salmonella outbreak last week, in an on-going investigation.
The FDA said,
You can read the full ongoing report here.Cucumbers grown by Bedner Growers, Inc., and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc., to retailers, distribution centers, wholesalers, and food service distributors from April 29, 2025, to May 19, 2025. Cucumbers distributed before this timeframe should be past shelf life and should no longer be available on the market.
But there’s good news…
Even though these cucumbers are distributed nationwide, there have only been cases in the following states:
- Alabama
- California
- Colorado
- Florida
- Illinois
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Michigan
- North Carolina
- New York
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
There have been ZERO reported deaths, and only 26 cases. We’re thankful for low numbers! And for no cases in the state of Georgia!
And according to WSB Atlanta, the Georgia Agriculture Commissioner, Tyler Harper, issued a statement assuring Georginas that Georgia grown cucumbers are safe. He says,
As Georgians head to the stores ahead of the holiday weekend, you can and should have 100% confidence in that Georgia Grown cucumbers are safe and wholesome, and with the spring harvest in full swing, it is a great time to buy Georgia Grown.
The agriculture department’s food safety division received reports that some retailers had received Bednar Growers’ recalled products, and the department will further investigate the claims.
As we learn more about the cucumber recall, we’ll let you know. But it’s good to know that Georgia Grown cucumbers are safe to eat and good to go! Stay safe out there, Atlanta!
