What is ‘Lizard Music’?
Lizard Music, a new film based off of the cult-classic novel by Daniel Pinkwater, will be written and directed by Benny Safdie.
According to IMDB, here’s the plot summary:
A young boy stumbles upon strange lizard musicians on late-night TV, leading him to befriend a peculiar man with an elderly chicken. Their quest for answers reveals hidden worlds and an unlikely but magical friendship.
The Rock said, in an Instagram post from last year,
I’m grateful and inspired to take this unbelievably wild journey with Benny Safdie into the world of “Lizard Music” for our next production together. As you see in these photos [above], the 75 year old man I’ll become, was real and known as a very bizarre, eccentric, yet oddly lovable man that everyone called ‘The Chicken Man’ and his best friend was a chicken named Claudia… And they meet a great kid… And their magical journey begins.
When will The Rock be in Atlanta?
According to IATSE 479, a local crew union, Lizard Music will film at Trililth Studios, which used to be home to Marvel, before they left Atlanta.
The current shot dates are slated for August 3rd, 2026 – October 14th, 2026.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitutions reports that the budget for the film is currently unknown, but that a bigger-budget film could be good for Georgia’s struggling film industry.
And of course, we can expect that a film with The Rock would have a pretty big influence on the local film industry!
What else is Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson up to?
